Flora of Virginia
Discover the power of the flower at the Atlee Branch Library! Delve into Virginia's natural environment through "Flora of Virginia," a traveling exhibition featuring colorful illustrations from the Library of Virginia's collections and beyond. "Flora of Virginia" is presented in collaboration with the Flora of Virginia Project, Inc. and the Library of Virginia, Inc. The exhibition explores the science and art of the 2012 edition of Flora of Virginia, the first flora of the commonwealth published in 250 years. Photographs, pen-and-ink drawings, sculpture, fossils, and illustrated volumes will complement the exploration of Virginia's flora. Stop by the library today to enjoy this fascinating exhibit.
Paws to READ
Meet Chrissie, a hound mix, who works as a reading education assistance dog with Paws to READ. Chrissie and her handler, Doris Favale, a Reading Specialist at Beaverdam Elementary School, will be at the Atlee Branch Library each month starting Monday, September 28. Be sure to contact the library this fall to sign up for a reading session with Chrissie.
The community in this part of Hanover County wanted a library and as a
result of a successful bond referendum in 1994, plans were laid out to open
a new branch. A renovation of a rundown storefront began in the summer of
1997; everything from the floor to the roof. What started out as a shell of
a grocery store evolved into a bright, energetic and bustling library.
The Atlee Branch Library averages a monthly circulation of over 12,000 items in a variety of formats (books, DVDs, eBooks, CDs, and more!) and in a variety of topics (from aspic to zithers and everything in between). Also, as a service to the County, we sell dog tags for those pets with current rabies inoculations.
The Friends of the Atlee Branch Library is comprised of members of the public who are advocates for the library, its staff and the community (they would love to have you join them!). Book sales are conducted several times a year, with all proceeds benefiting the Atlee Branch Library. Through their generosity, programming has been made available for all ages, equipment purchased for public use and hospitality provided at many functions held at the library.
The staff of the Atlee Branch Library is eager to provide you with friendly, personalized service and we'll even help you with your homework, but we won't do it for you! Come "check us out!"
