Celebrate reading for fun while encouraging teens to take advantage of reading in all its forms — books, magazines, e-books, audiobooks and more - during Teen Read Week! Thousands of libraries, schools and bookstores across the country will hold similar events centered on this year’s theme, Read for the Fun of It! 

 

The following events are planned for Teen Read Week at our branch libraries:

 

"Read for the Fun of It!" Scavenger Hunt

Thursday, October 6, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Location: Ashland Branch Library

Ages 11-16.  Bring your friends for a fun scavenger hunt at the library.  Call or visit the branch by Oct. 3 to sign-up.

Snacks provided by the Friends of the Ashland Library. 

 

Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics

Friday, October 7, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Location: Mechanicsville Branch Library

Ages 10-16. Join us after hours for crazy games based on the popular book, Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics. You don't need to read the book to attend.

Snacks provided by the Friends of the Mechanicsville Library.

 

Soapmaking 101

Tuesday, October 11, 6:30 - 8:00

Location: Hanover Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Go green and learn how to make your own soap.  Pick a fragrance and take home your creation.

Spooktacular 60 Seconds to Win It!

Tuesday, October 11, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Location: Montpelier Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Race the clock while playing fangtastic Halloween-themed mini-games that test your limits!

Teen Movie Night

Thursday, October 13, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Location: King & Queen Branch Library

Ages 11-18. See a great movie on the big screen with your friends.

Thursday, October 13, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Location: Atlee Branch Library

Ages 11-18.  Explore different languages and test your skills with emoji games and crafts.  Call or visit the library to sign up.

Game on: Speak the Language of Fun!

Location: Goochland Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Enjoy playing games from around the world and speak the universal language of fun.

Teen Make & Take Movie Night

Tuesday, October 18, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Location: Cochrane Rockville Branch Library

Ages 11-18.  Looking for a fun, free night out with your friends?  Have we got a new monthly program for you!  In October, make a Star Wars-themed origami while watching the movie.

Dinner and beverages provided by the Friends of the Rockville Library.

 

Read for the Fun of It!: Book Covers

Thursday, October 13, 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Location: Upper King William Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Be creative at the library and re-design the cover of one of your favorite books!  Materials provided.

Snacks provided by the Friends of the Upper King William Library.

 

Zombiefied!

Saturday, October 15, Noon - 1:00 p.m.

Location: West Point Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Design a zombie t-shirt (please bring an old, light colored t-shirt to decorate).  Become one of the walking dead with our zombie makeup kits.

Snacks for the undead provided by the Friends of the West Point Library.
