Celebrate reading for fun while encouraging teens to take advantage of reading in all its forms — books, magazines, e-books, audiobooks and more - during Teen Read Week! Thousands of libraries, schools and bookstores across the country will hold similar events centered on this year’s theme, Unleash Your Story! 

 

The following events are planned for Teen Read Week at our branch libraries:

 

Happenings @ the Library, during library hours (October 9 - 14)

Location: Goochland Branch Library

Ages 12-18. Celebrate Teen Read Week with fun events and prizes, like the 6-Word Memoir Tree, Books on Fleek, Get Caught Reading, and more! You could meet the Candy Bar Librarian!

 

Leave Your Mark @ the Library

Monday, October 9, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Location: Hanover Branch Library

Ages 9-18. We need YOU! Help us brighten up our shelves with book dividers that you can design and paint.

Snacks provided by the Hanover Branch Library Friends.

 

Teen Tuesdays: Book Title Pictionary

Tuesday, October 10, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Location: Mechanicsville Branch Library

Ages 11-18. No drawing skills required! Have fun playing with your friends!

Solve the BreakOut Box!

Tuesday, October 10, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Location: King & Queen Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Test your mental proficiency with our BreakOut Box. Solve mysteries and puzzles to reach the sweet surprise at the end. Bring your friends and family to work as a team!

Unleash Your Story!

Tuesday, October 10, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Location: Montpelier Branch Library

Ages 11-18. "Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?" YOU DO! Own who you are and where you’re headed at this fun, interactive program with creative storytelling techniques to share.

Harry Potter Cosplay & Movie Night

Thursday, October 12, 4:00 - 6:45 p.m.

Location: Upper King William Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Dress up as your favorite Potterverse character or come as you are for a great movie at the library!

Book Cover BINGO

Thursday, October 12, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Location: Ashland Branch Library

Ages 11-16. Who doesn’t love a great game of BINGO, but with book covers and prizes!

Tricks & Treats Pizza Party!

Saturday, October 14, Noon - 1:00 p.m.

Location: West Point Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Celebrate Teen Read Week with fun games, puzzles, and our BreakOut Box.

Outlandish Short Stories Reveal

Saturday, October 14, 1:00– 2:00 p.m.

Location: Atlee Branch Library

Enjoy short stories written by local young authors and vote for your favorite from October 1-13! We’ll reveal the winner on Saturday, October 14.  

 

Poke Ball Habitats

Saturday, October 14, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Location: Cochrane Rockville Branch Library

Ages 11-18. Make a comfy Poke Ball habitat for your favorite Pokemon! Supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own, too!

Snacks provided by the Friends of the Rockville Library.

Teen Read Week is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association.
